The skin-deep art

As a kid I felt fascinated by the natives from remote places who transform their bodies as an intrinsic element of their culture and religion. In our society, the tattoo which used to be a marginal element of jails or military is now a trend in our daily culture. So, the tattoos constitute the primitivism’s reinterpretation towards a modernity paying homage to Hedonism and the the external aspect as a differential form out of the rest. In a similar way to what happens in the tribes, nowadays tattoos mean for those who wear them a form of identity, taste, culture, belief or religion within the urban crowd.

These images are part of an extensive personal project of Contemporary Urban Anthropology about the Tattoo’s world. Some of these photos were published in the book Tattoo “The skin-deep art” (2011).
